Heat waves are back in Belgium and endanger homeless people. Because, contrary to general belief, life on the street during the summer is hardly more bearable than in winter.

What are the risks, best practices, and recommendations? Here is a reminder from Dr Pierre Ryckmans, medical coordinator at Street Nurses.

In September 2022, the Brussels A Coeur Joie (ACJ) Region invites you to share its passion for the vocal arts and classical music during its concert for the benefit of Street Nurses.

The Affiliation project was born in 2020. This cross-cutting project for the five Housing First projects in Brussels (Antonin Artaud CSM, Diogenes vzw, Straatverplegers, Samusocial Brussel and Smes) serves the tenants supported within each of these programmes to address the problems of loneliness and lack of well-being experienced by these people.

In partnership with the BICO Federation, Street Nurses is organising two-day training sessions for professionals who are confronted with issues linked to hygiene and precarity in their work.

The year 2021 marked Street Nurses’ 15^th anniversary. It was a year of challenges taken up, of innovative projects carried out in an ever more present pandemic context.

[VIDEO] Street Nurses contributes to the end of homelessness in Brussels and Liege, by accompanying homeless people who are very vulnerable in terms of health, towards their reintegration into stable housing.

In June 2021, Anderlecht and Forest were the first municipalities in the Brussels Region to grant a building permit for modular housing projects managed by Infirmiers de rue. Since then, the project in Forest has continued to grow.

Many of you participated in our crowdfunding. And thanks to you we have been able to collect 15,000 Euros to launch the project!

“My Way” started in February 2021 and develops very well!

Thanks to the intensive work of the field team in cooperation with its network, we managed to give  a total of 6 homeless persons a new home.

The Street Nurses' 'Module' project aims to rehouse and support formerly homeless people in a sustainable way in modular and movable accommodation.

Street Nurses NPO is appalled by the practices revealed in a number of media articles today concerning the financial management at Poverello. It is always difficult to believe that such practices exist within the anti-poverty sector, but if what has been revealed in the press is true, it goes against every practice of good governance and transparency that is adhered to and promoted today within organisations that appeal to the generosity of the public.

With the image of a piece of cardboard as a 'mattress Badlük' and the launch of the first Brussels Sleep Out @Home, the NPO Street Nurses (Infirmiers de rue asbl) renews its campaign to make the Brussels public aware that homelessness can be solved. With more than 700 people sleeping on the streets of Brussels, the organisation wants to keep the whole of Brussels awake to put an end to homelessness together.
